Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

Sharing is caring!

Udaipur, the city of lakes and also the Venice of East is one of the calm and peaceful cities I have ever been to. The vibe you get while in this city is just great. This Udaipur Budget Travel guide is about how you can travel to Udaipur on a Budget and have a great time in this beautiful and historical city. This guide includes everything you need when you would be visiting Udaipur like transportation, food, budget places to stay in, best places to visit.

Let’s begin with the article.

Best and Budget places to stay.

When it comes to accommodation, Udaipur is certainly one of the cheapest cities I traveled. Being a solo traveler, I have always loved staying in hostels. The hostels in Udaipur are just so different and the interior they have in almost all the hostels is just very mesmerizing. The building in which these hostels are situated are very different than the usual hostels we are used to seeing.

The price-

You can expect to pay around Rs.800 to Rs.1700 for around 4 days, which is just $11 to $23 (US Dollars). And just to be clear, this price is for total 4 days and just per night rates.

The amount I paid for the 4 nights I was here was Rs.1450 ($20) and I stayed at Moustache Udaipur.

I am going to list down the hostels which offer the price range I have mentioned above. You can choose anyone of them, according to your liking.

Backpacker Panda Udaipur.(New)

Whereabout Hostel.

Zostel Udaipur.

Moustache Udaipur. (The one I stayed in)

Hide-In Udaipur. (New)

These are the hostels you can stay in without spending a lot. The hostels mentioned above had the pricing when I’m writing this article. It would be possible that the price increase when you are reading this article. But don’t worry there won’t be a huge price difference, it would only be around Rs.100 or Rs.200. That’s your first step for Udaipur on a Budget.

I am saying you should stay only at these hostels, if you are getting a good deal at any other hostels then it would be great, but don’t spend more than Rs.1700 ($23) for the 4 days you are here.

The 5 Day Udaipur Budget Itinerary.

Day 1 –

On the first day I love exploring the local areas of the places I go. Udaipur is very famous for it’s Lakes and Ghats right in the center of the city. Starting your day with these would be a very good option for you. Let’s start with the places to visit around

1) Lake Pichola

One of the famous lakes in Udaipur. The quite amazing thing about this is that it is an artificial lake and the area around this is very peaceful. There are many places around where you can see this lake like rooftop restaurants, bridges, Ghats and so on. Lake Pichola is spread around a large area in Udaipur. The lake was just 5 mins away from my hostel. It also had a rooftop which gave this amazing view of this lake. After coming to Udaipur your first stop should definitely be Lake Pichola.

2) Gangaur Ghat.

A Very famous spot to see the Lake Pichola is Gangaur Ghat. It is right on the banks of this lake and also it is a very photogenic places in all Udaipur. Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

This is one of the most interesting gardens I have ever been to. It was built around between 1710 – 1734 by Maharana Sangram Singh II for the entertainment of the royal queens and their maids of honor. The main attraction of this garden are definitely the Lawns, Fountains, Lotus Pool.

There is various painting inside the facility by some early artists. Just look about it on the internet before you go there, or else you would get lost into various things which are there inside this place. Guides are also available at the gate if you want one.

3) Fateh Sagar Lake.

Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

This is the second artificial lake in Udaipur. It is the bigger lake among the two main lakes in Udaipur. The best way to take a tour of the lake is by the boat rides. Fare of the boat ride is less as compared to the boat ride in Lake Pichola. Although this is not a very picturesque place but won’t be disappointed as well.

4) Sukhadia Circle.

Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

A garden situated right in the center of the road. This place is very good to chill and relax during your busy day running around Udaipur. There are not entry fees in this place so you won’t have any problem coming down and sitting here.

There is fountain situated right in the center of this garden and you can also do some boat rides around it.

Day 4

1) Fateh Sagar Pal.

Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

This is a walkway located on the upper side of Fateh Sagar Lake. It is the one where all the local and tourist people come in the evening and chill around. There are kids skating around this place.

There is also an aquarium located near this called as Under the Sea. These are the few things you can do around this place.

2) Shilpgram.

This is a place where you will find the rural arts and crafts.

3) Badi Lake/ Tiger Lake.

Udaipur Budget Travel Guide

A Lake located a little away form the city. Badi Lake is a very isolated lake and a quite one as compared to the other two lakes. There are hardly any public transportation available to go to this lake. The only one reliable way to reach here is Uber.

I went to this place by Hitch Hiking. There were many people which helped me during this. While coming back I was lucky to hop on to a public us all the way till Fateh Sagar Lake.

4) Monsoon Palace.

This is not the kind of place you will like. It is nothing but a bunch of building just located at the top of a mountain. This Palace was built by the king just to see the Monsoon clouds coming from far away. Thus, the name Monsoon Palace.

If you are short of time you can skip this place and spent some more time in the city.

These are the place you can visit in Udaipur during your 4-day trip.

You can change and manage the Itinerary whichever way you like and which is convenient to you.

Talking about the costs.

The Overall cost required for me for just the Attractions is Rs.1000.

This was the best part of my trip to Udaipur. All the attractions except for Badi Lake and the Monsoon Palace were at a walking distance. The overall transportation cost I spent was Rs.150.

The total cost for my 4-Day stay was Rs.1450.

The overall cost for food was around Rs.1500.

You can add your transportation cost from the city you all are coming from to the total budget.

Trains wouldn’t cost you more. The average rate you would pay for a train journey from the major cities in India to Udaipur is around Rs.500.

Hope you loved this budget travel guide.

See you on my next Journey.
