Travel Apps

Sharing is caring!

In Today’s world travelers are depending more on their smartphones for planning and organizing their trips. It becomes very handy and easy to use a smartphone for planning everything rather than using a laptop. Today’s article is all about the top travel apps every traveler should be using for their travel journey.

These are those travel apps which I use on all my travel journeys. These apps will take care of everything from planning a trip, transport, booking accommodation, checking flights, making payments, checking offline maps, translating languages, etc.

Let us begin with the top travel apps list.

Skyscanner.

One of the most trusted apps when it comes to booking cheap flights. I have been using this for the last two years now. It helps you get the best rates for your flights. They also give you hotel suggestions and other things related to your trip.

Apart from flight and hotel bookings, you can also use the car rental feature on Skyscanner. Also, they have their blog where you can check out the destinations you want to travel and get some inspiration.

Booking.com.

You need to have this app installed on your phone right away. This app has been very helpful for me during my last year of travel. This app is perfect for all the budget travelers as well as luxury travelers.

You can check the properties according to the user ratings and reviews and decide for yourselves. Also, they have Genius levels in their app where you get benefits as you reach a certain level. Some say it is useless and some say it is great. Well, I have loved this feature and also, I have got many benefits from this.

Instagram.

Yes, this is not one of the travel apps, but it can be very helpful in checking the current situation of a place you are about to visit. Let me explain how I use Instagram.

First, I search for a particular place and then click on the location. It gives a list of posts that were taken at that particular place. By default, it shows the top posts of the following place. You have to click on the recent tab.

This way you will get an idea about how that place looks when you are going to visit it. This feature is very handy for checking the places.

Google Maps.

A very obvious one of the travel apps. You should have Google maps installed and most importantly download the region you are going to until you have a strong Wi-Fi signal. You never know when you will get it and you don’t want to be a different place with just Google Maps installed and no offline maps.

Rome2Rio.

Ever had a problem in reaching from one place to another? Just being stuck between places and having no idea about any transportation in that area and waiting for anything you can get?

If you had a situation similar to that, then this app would solve all those problems and would let you travel from one place to another with all the accurate information. Basically, it is an app that shows ways to travel from one place to another. Everything from trains, buses, taxi or any other transportation which is available will be shown in this app.

TripIt.

Planning a trip can be very messed up sometimes and you won’t be able to remember every single detail of your journey on the back of your mind. That is when TripIt would help you. This is one of those travel apps which will help you plan a trip and write down everything related to it.

Also, you can invite your friends and share the itinerary if you are on a grp trip. Do check this app out before your next journey.

XE Currency Converter.

You surely need a currency converter app for your travels. This is one of those travel apps which will get you going. It shows your currency conversion for almost every country and it will provide you the latest rates.

They also have a graph showing how the prices are raised or slashed in the market. It also helps you transfer money overseas. Overall a very helpful and handy app from the travel apps list.

Google Translate.

As the name suggests, this app will basically translate whatever you type or say into the any of your desired languages. The one feature I love about this is you can download the languages pack and you can even translate it even though you don’t have an

internet connection.

Keep this app installed on your foreign trip. Even if you are traveling in India it would e helpful as it translates Indian languages like Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Marathi, etc.

Uber.

You must be very familiar with this app. I don’t think I need to elaborate on what this app does. But one suggestion would be always using local transportation if you are a budget traveler. Only use Uber if there is no other way available or it is very late at night and you cannot find any other transportation option. Keep this app as a kind of backup option.

Couchsurfing.

Now, this app is not just for staying at local people’s homes for free. This app has many more to it. You can check the travelers traveling around your area and fix a meetup if they are nearby.

You can post that you will be traveling this place for a certain amount of time so that people can text you about the meeting or other stuff. Although don’t completely rely on the app to meet people. This is just a way for you to get a bit more social.

Airbnb.

Yes, another one of the favorite travel apps. This has been for a very long time in the market and most people check out apartments around the area using this app. This app is great if you are traveling with your friends or if you are a couple and don’t wish to stay in hostels then this app would be great for you.

Netflix.

Not exactly one of the travel apps but it will be great to have this app during your travels. You will be on long flights, buses, trains and during these journeys, you can use the Netflix app to watch some movies or TV series.

You can download whichever movies or shows you want and you won’t even notice when your journey finishes.

Travel Apps you will need if you are planning a trip to India.

Below down I am mentioning a list of travel apps that you will make your travel easier if you are traveling in India.

Paytm.

A very handy payments app when traveling in India. Nowadays you can see the Paytm payment options at almost every store. Even if you don’t have an Indian bank account you can use your debit card for payment.

The only drawback is that you won’t receive any cashback in your international bank accounts.

M-Indicator.

This is a must-have app for everyone traveling to India. This app is used very limitedly and there is a misconception that it can only be used for checking local trains or metros in Mumbai or Delhi.

It can do far more than that. You can check the number of express trains available from a state to another. You can also check updates about the trains. If you ever rent a bike or car in India then it has a list of fines you pay if you break any rules here.

This comes handy and prevents you from giving any extra money to the police officers who tell you a higher fine. Not all of them would do that but it will can happen with you 6 out of 10 times.

Available for iOS and Android devices.

IRCTC Rail App.

Book railway tickets on the go. This IRCTC (Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation) app will show you the trains and allow you to book the tickets well in advance. Also, if you don’t want to book any advance tickets you can just check the timetable and the seat availability if your plan is not fixed.

Available for iOS and Android devices.

Zomato/Swiggy.

They both are food delivery apps which are the most popular apps in India. Recently their popularity has grown a lot and it has allowed them to increase their reach in even some of the small cities.

Apart from the food delivery, there is also a go out section in these apps so you can check out the restaurant’s menu on your phone before entering. You can decide if you want to go to a restaurant based on the price, menu or the type of food served there.

Overall, a very useful travel apps to have in India.
