Today’s article is about a very unique and cheap getaway from Mumbai which you can do in just Rs.250. Myanmar Gate, the nearly perfect one day destination for you.

Without wasting any time let’s start with the article.

A Little Introduction about the Myanmar Gate.

Myanmar Gate

It is not actually a tourist destination, it is a meditation center also known as Dhammagiri. Now, don’t get it wrong, you can still go there even if you don’t want to enroll yourself in any meditation activities there. The place is located at around 120 kms from Mumbai. There has been a lot of tourist activities in this place mostly because of the gate at the entrance. This is a very unique place for clicking some great pictures.

Mostly this type of gates is not seen around Mumbai often. The last time I saw such gate was in Thailand. It was a surprise for me when I actually saw this. As said earlier it is not a tourist destination, there is not a lot of things to do around here. There is a open space right after you enter the gate, which has a very scenic background of the mountains covered up in fog in the monsoon season. Again, a very photogenic place.

There is a walkway which leads up to a place called the Buddha Park. This is a little garden area where you can chill. Overall it is a decent place for a perfect one-day destination. The limitation of this place wont prompt you to hurry to catch a train back to Mumbai. You can come and have a very relaxing one-day getaway without any hurry.

Myanmar Gate

The Myanmar Gate is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Now, let me explain you how you can do this in just Rs.250 or even less.

How to Reach Igatpuri Station

Express Trains

Express Train

You can catch a train from Mumbai till Igatpuri station. It would be better if you leave early in the morning so you can get good pictures without people interrupting your shots.

The train you should catch for Igatpuri is Tapovan Express at 6:28 a.m. from Dadar or Kashi Express at 6:35 a.m. from Tilak Terminal if you are traveling solo or maybe two of you. I will explain the reason for this ahead. These trains take around 2 and half hour to reach Igatpuri and they cost around Rs.60 and Rs.55 respectively. These are the fastest train in that budget.

I have another option for large groups. If you are a big group you can spend some more time in train and catch the Bhusaval Passenger Express at 5:32 a.m. This train takes about 4 hours to reach Igatpuri but it just costs Rs.35. As I always say, you can save money by investing more in time. So, if you calculate then as a group of 10 you can save around Rs.200 to Rs.250.

Choose whichever way will be good for you.

Both the train will drop you at Igatpuri at around 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. so there is not much of a time difference as such. It’s just that you have to get up a little early for catching the Bhusaval Express.

Overall cost until now – Rs.35 or Rs.55 or Rs.60

Local Trains

You can Catch A Local Train from Dadar to Kasara and it would just cost you Rs.30 one side.

The local train timings from Dadar are as follows

5:18 a.m.

7:08 a.m.

8:48 a.m.

9:54 a.m.

After reaching Kasara you can catch a ST bus till Igatpuri and continue your journey ahead. The us ticket should not be more than Rs.15. I’m not sure about the timings of the bus, you will have to enquire about it while you are there.

Overall Cost would be Rs.45

After Reaching Igatpuri Station.

Now, maybe you can have a little breakfast before continuing your journey ahead. There are not a lot of stalls around Igatpuri Railway station. You can have some decent breakfast for around Rs.50. These stalls won’t cost you a lot of money. The types of snacks available would be Vada Pav, Misal Pav, Bhajiya, and also some South Indian snacks.

Using Express Train Overall cost until now – Rs. 85 or Rs.105 or Rs.110.

By Using Local Train Overall cost – Rs.95

The prices are very reasonable and a decent lunch could cost you around Rs.100. Now, this is totally a rough figure, this could vary according to individuals. I cannot give you an exact quote on this, but just a rough estimate according to the prices.

03:45 p.m. Bhusaval Passenger Express

Talking about the price these trains start from Rs.35 to Rs.60.

If these train fit your timings then great you shouldn’t have any problem. Just keep in mind that the General coaches are very crowded and you will hardly get any place to stand, forget about sitting.

Few questions!!
1. Do they allow to carry a back inside that big hall.?
2. Do we have a place to keep back pack safely!?

3 are drinkables and edibles allowed?
